  Spit or swallow?
If anyone finds the “secret plan” that PR Week reckons is in the works (Loewy may swallow Mantra and Rainier, 11 September 2009) would they please forward it to me. Given that I am allegedly one of the authors I would love to see it.

Such sensationalist reporting is a bit of a departure for PR Week. But when it's sensationalism for the sake of it, and the story barely stands up because it uses quotes about agency integration to back up anonymous rumour claims about branding, it does the industry no favours.

Mantra PR and Rainier PR (including its teams Custard PR and Lighthouse PR) have already merged into Loewy. As has BMA. PR Week covered the story on each occasion. We were “swallowed” - which I guess is tabloid-parlance for what happens when one company buys another. It was news. Two years ago.

There is a plan for the five agencies to move into a single building. But no news here either really. Rainier PR co-MD and founder Steve Earl alluded to this on his blog back in July and we’ve got property agents running around the West End looking for space. Over the last two years we’ve also integrated a lot of our back office functions but then you’d expect that in a group environment.

It is really great to see PR Week take such a ballsy approach to reporting but in this instance it is just repeating old news when there are so many smarter questions that it could have asked.

PR Week staffer Matt Cartmell spoke to Iain Johnston, Loewy’s interim CEO. Iain explained Loewy’s strategy including the PR cluster, and said he’d talk further when we had something to say.

I’m guessing that this post won’t make the Best of the Tech Blogs spot in PR Week next week.
