  No danger of peaking early

With less than three months to go and an exhausting 10km cross country run under my belt this weekend, the reality of signing up for the Loewy Three Peaks challenge is beginning to hit home.

Myself, Tim Hoang, Chris Lee, Sam Grace, Rebecca Gregory and Claire Williamson, and driver Gerry Grewal have signed up to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support by completing the Three Peaks Challenge this summer. But it’s the physical challenge rather than the fundraising that is literally exercising the team from Loewy-agencies Lighthouse PR and Rainier PR.

The team will begin its ascent of Ben Nevis at 5pm on Saturday, 14 June, climbing Scafell Pike the following morning and completing the task with the conquest of Snowdon by 5pm that afternoon – thus having climbed the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours.

In completing the challenge we’ll have climbed more than 3400 metres (more than 11,100ft), almost the height of Mount Cook (NZ), and done a round trip of 1,148 miles, the equivalent of driving London to Bucharest.

My motivation is simple: I want to get fit and raise some cash for Macmillan. But after discussion about personal training schedules this morning I’m getting more than a tad concerned. Chris has just completed a cycle ride between the ancient cities of Cordoba and Granada in southern Spain, and Claire is lined up for the London Marathon and a couple of triathlons.

I’m going to put in a trip up Scafell next month and the team is heading to Snowdon in May for a warm-up. I’ll write updates as we get closer to the challenge in the meantime please consider making a donation to Macmillan Cancer Support via our Just Giving page to see us on our way.

no more pies til June for you, Mr Wadds... ;-)

I've wanted to do the three peaks since I was about 15 but it's always so difficult to find a lackey willing to do the driving. Best of luck to all of you.

Oh and if anyone has to drop out at the last minute....

@muttley Off the pies and sausages for the duration

@dom thanks for the good wishes. Will give you a shout if we repeat it in '09.
